Beanfield Snacks - Bean Chips That are Flavor Packed

I spotted someone with this chip bag most recently and so I jumped at the opportunity to review these chips. Beanfields Snacks was founded in 2011 by Reed Glidden and his wife Liza Braude-Glidden as well as Reed's brother Roy Glidden. And they wanted to change the way we all ate (what better way to start than how we snack right??) So they created delicious plant based Non-GMO (so important to me!) snacks.

They are an environment conscious company and they also include a main ingredients that is better for your health than the usual ingredients that you see in chips - beans! There is so much good stuff at this company so make sure you visit their site and see what they offer the community and the good works that they do.

Now to the chips! I had the chance to try out a wide variety. I immediately tasted the difference in these chips than others I've tried. The beans in them gave them such a heartier flavor. They didn't taste empty to me and at the same time, they were so incredibly flavorful. Plus they have flavors like black bean with sea salt, white bean with sea salt, and sea salt if you want to indulge in your favorite dipping sauce.

But I had a variety of chips to try out - Jalapeno Nacho, Nacho, Barbecue, Ranch, Pico De Gallo. and then Black Bean with Sea Salt, White Bean with Sea Salt, and Sea Salt. My absolute favorites were the Nacho and the Barbecue Flavor. SO incredible!! These are my new favorites. The Pico de Gallo and the Jalapeno Nacho was very spice chips, I enjoyed these as well. Surprisingly enough the Ranch wasn't one of my favorites. I really appreciated the clean but salty flavor of the Black Bean with sea Salt, Sea Salt, and White Bean with Sea Salt. They made great additions to lunches and for dipping!

I think there is so much flavor and crunch with these chips. They aren't light, which I really enjoyed, so they were hearty enough to go with dinners to me (like beans and rice! Or hot dog night! oh you name it!). And I like chips that are hearty enough for hearty dips, these definitely were. I imagine these would be amazing for all those nacho recipe out there too.

Overall, I think these were amazing and next time you are in the grocery store, you should go for buying a bag of these. I highly recommend this brand.  The awesome thing is I get to giveaway some chips to one lucky reader! One winner will receive a 6 pack of chips. Enter via Rafflecopter below. US Only. Ends 10/16.

Perfect Bar - Perfect Way to Snack Your Day

I'm always on the look out for making my snack times easier and healthier. I love the idea of a health bar but sometimes they don't cut it for me - preservatives, weird tastes, strange ingredients, all that stuff.

But then I discovered the Perfect Bar and I couldn't wait to try it out and tell you about it.

This was a surprisingly awesome experience having this bar. And I can tell you that this is one of my new favorite things. Let's start with the most basic amazingness that is the peanut butter bar. It's 17 grams of protein, and when you check out the ingredients of this bar, you can see all the good stuff, such as honey, good oils like flax seed oil, olive oil, and also food powders, such as organic lemon, organic papaya, tomato...and so much more; in fact, I'm not even doing it justice, so be sure to go to their website to see what other kinds of good stuff you get from this awesome perfect bar.

I noticed the taste of the veggies in this which gave it a unique taste that combined with the peanut butter. Really, I enjoyed this a lot.

The other flavors were Almond Butter (also really enjoyed this one, maybe not as much as the peanut butter one but definitely enjoyed this). Almond Acai, Almond Coconut, Fruit and Nut, Cranberry Crunch, and Carob Chip (another favorite).

This came on a day I really needed a pick me up, so I was so happy to try these out. If you are curious as to why this is called the PERFECT bar, well, it's non-gmo (VERY important to me). sweetened with organic honey which makes it amazing in my book, I sweeten my treats this way too if I'm baking. Plus it's Gluten-Free and it's a sneaky way of getting your veggies!

Interested in trying this out for yourself? Check out where you can find it in a store near you. Also, you can purchase this online as well

Nana Joes Granola - Upgrade Your Breakfast! [Review and Giveaway]

I had the chance to try out some granola by Nana Joes. It was started by Michelle Pusateri who wanted to create something nourishing that she could eat in between surfing. I think that makes her cool in my book! She taste tested granola and voila! Here we have Nana Joes! Read more about the company here.

I got the chance to try out a few different granola types.

The Trieftca Blend

This has a variety of things in it - rolled oats, maple syrup, pieces of cocoa nibs, cranberries and more! Make sure you click on purchase now above to read the rest of the ingredients. It's gluten-free, and nut free too.

I thought this granola was perfect with yogurt. It wasn't too chunky and it blended nicely in my yogurt - wasn't totally awkward to eat with a spoon. I could really tell this was a healthier granola too - not a whole lot of junk in it, and that is greatly appreciated. It's a looser granola than what I usually see - not sure how else to describe it.

Sunset Blend

I enjoyed this one, but maybe not as much as I have others! It still tasted good, but I was hoping for a bit of a stronger flavor in the granola - or maybe I missed the added chocolate. Still good though and VERY healthy, you can tell. Also more of a looser granola than chunky.

Grain Free, Paleo Friendly, Urban Radish Blend

Okay this one surprised me by far and was DEFINITELY my favorite. It had little coconut chunks with the occasional nuts and dried fruit. This surprised me because I wasn't sure what the taste would be like. But I really really really enjoyed it - this is something I would buy again. It made for a great snack and something I could take with me separate from yogurt which I loved. It had so much coconut goodness! By far, I can't say enough, this one is for sure worth trying out for yourself. It's really unique too - not something I've seen before.

Tony's Trail Mix

This was definitely good - very flavorful. I loved the variety of foods you get in it. I think this makes for a great snack too. Loved the big chocolate pieces (I'm such a sucker for chocolate!) and the dried fruit. The price is a tad steep considering you are getting a 7 ounce bag, but I kind of think it's worth it because of how much good stuff you are getting. This isn't your average trail mix.

Overall, I really like what Nana Joes has to offer and I'm sure going to look for this granola in stores. You can probably buy some in a store near you too! Check out this list. Also you can purchase online here as well.

I'm also happy to announce that I get to giveaway some granola to one lucky reader! Ends 9/29. US Only.

Gluten-Free Oats That You Must Try! [And Check Out My New Recipe!]

I had the chance to branch out and try some new oats by this really cool company -

Bakery On Main!

Have you seen their stuff before? They offer some really unique variety of choices for those of us who eat gluten-free. I love when companies start out small like this one does, by the way. It started out as a small bakery in Connecticut, and the Founder and President, Michael Smulders is obviously passionate about making tasty gluten-free food safe for celiacs and people who are gluten intolerant. That is greatly appreciated by me! Read more about their story here.

I had the chance to try out a couple of their oatmeal. It's one of the things that I really enjoy in the morning, especially as the season gets cold. And not only do I enjoy it in the microwave or on the stove but I love making oat muffins. Although one day I couldn't find my muffin tin so I turned my usual muffin recipe into more of a cake-ish bread creation as you can see picture below -

This turned out AMAZING. It's delicious with honey and butter and this time around I used Happy Oats by Bakery on Main. Why are these oats happy? Could be that they're non GMO, preservative free, gluten-free and that's gonna sure make me happy.

So here's the recipe -

2 and a half cups of ground gluten free oats
1/2 a tsp of cream of tartar
1/4 a tsp of baking soda
1 egg
1 and 1/3 cup of milk (or half and half or soy)
2 tbsp of butter (or olive oil)
1/2 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of cinnamon
1 tbsp of cloves
1/4 of honey
1/2 tsp of vanilla
About a cup or so of Frozen or fresh blueberries

Preheat oven to 350. Mix together dry ingredients. Then add the milk, butter, and egg. Mix well.

I dab olive oil into pan and spread around with (clean lol) fingers to ensure this doesn't stick. Pour mixture into square baking pan. Sprinkle generous amount of cinnamon on top. Then sprinkle on blueberries on top of mixture.

Bake for 25-30 minutes.

I love this recipe in particular because it's so modifiable. When the fall season and holiday season comes, I think I will experiment by adding some pumpkin to this or maybe turn it in gingerbread or something.

So I highly recommend adding Happy Oats to your shopping list and most of all, keep an eye out for what Bakery on Main has to offer, they've got some really good stuff. Visit their online store to purchase some that you can enjoy!

Cool Off During the Dog Days of Summer

Right when I think we're done with the heat wave, another one is around the corner. Sure, it's the end of August and we should be done with summer soon at least, right? But not for me!

The last few weeks have had at least 3 days of 90 degrees and although we're finally on the cooling trend, I can't help but let you guys know about the thing you must get to cool off for these dog days of summer. (And you never know, the fall could be hot!)

So I had the chance to review the Honeywell Portable Air Conditioner.

First of all, it comes in this great huge box which can seem overwhelming if you are worried about putting the thing together. But you know what? It's EXTREMELY easy. And I opened up this box and started putting it together late at night too, so how about that? The hardest part was the hose and connecting it to the unit. Which took me less than five minutes to do, which is pretty incredible actually (I think I spent more time putting together and an office chair I got delivered once).

So I set this up in a back bedroom that really doesn't get a lot of sun in the afternoon, it's probably the coolest part of the house. One thing I loved is that there wasn't a need for me to remove the window screen, I just set up the part you put into the window and it was just plugging it in and turning it on!

Over the last few weeks, my city experienced a pretty horrid heat wave and so I've kept this unit plugged in and running during the hottest points of the day. To give you some perspective, my apartment is whatever the temperature is outside and sometimes hotter, because it faces the afternoon sun when it's the hottest point in the day. So it's really bad. But the room that I put the air conditioner, stayed at a cool 75 when it was about 100 in the rest of the apartment.

A nice chilly 66 Degrees in the Bedroom (during a cool morning)

For not as chilly days, I love the fact that you can adjust the temperature for how cool you want it, so this is greatly appreciated. PLUS it isn't very loud either, so it won't disrupt conversation or television.

Honestly this is the best portable air conditioner I have seen so far. It's the perfect thing to cool off a regular sized room (this is a room that I can close off to the rest of the apartment so that helps a lot as well!). Price wise, it may be a bit expensive, but this is worth purchasing. Really! You will be extremely happy with this product. It's one of the few things I can safely rave about it seems like, because portable air conditioners that are good are sort of hard to come by for me.

Right now you can get this on Amazon.com for $449 with free shipping.
